One of my contacts on LinkedIn recently celebrated 12 years at his job. On my end, it showed that he was celebrating 2 years at that job; consequently, I congratulated him for 2 years on that job. He didn’t realize that his profile showed 2 years instead of 12.
Here’s a valuable lesson: periodically check all your social media profiles to make sure they’re accurate and well-written, because for many that don’t know you, your profile is the first gaze they have into your world and into your life. It determines whether someone wants to connect, follow or like you on social media, so make sure your profiles are authentic, relevant and fun, too. Remember, it’s “social” media, after all.
