Dear AMBC Members,

You’ve asked for it and we’re making it happen! AMBC will be teaching its newly revamped certified professional packing course via Zoom on Saturday, March 27th, from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. EDT.

In the past, AMBC has offered its certified courses exclusively at events or through special arrangements. And for years, AMBC Members have asked for us to find a way to get those courses online. We’ve tested different methods and, after a very successful beta test at the end of last year, are very pleased to now offer our professional packing course as a live interactive experience via Zoom!

The packing course is no longer taught in two parts (as was traditional at events), but rather has been redone into a single comprehensive five-hour course. Marty Johnson, Owner of Uncle Marty’s Shipping Office in Ithaca, New York, and AMBC’s very own Director of Communication and Advisor to the Board, will teach the course. He’s been AMBC’s lead certified instructor for years and, with nearly 30 years of exposure and experience in this industry, is a well-known guru of packaging techniques, tips, and tricks.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • Charging for materials and service
  • Marketing your packing service
  • Safety practices
  • Importance of proper packing
  • Environmental hazards packages encounter
  • Science of packing
  • Shipping containers, packing materials, and tools
  • Five steps to packing
  • Unusual items and finding packing jobs
  • Carrier differences
  • Coverage limits and restricted items
  • Special packing techniques
  • How to pack specific items
  • Box manipulation and box construction

The fee for this certified course is $250.00 per store, plus $50.00 per participant. This includes the five-hour course and subsequent certification for each participant as an “AMBC Certified Packing Specialist” upon successful completion and passing of the final exam.

If you’re not able to make the March 27th time, don’t worry. We hope to have another training at the same time on Saturday, April 24th, and then subsequent future dates for the packing class over the summer … and also hope to add other certified courses in shipping, CMRA, freight, social media, marketing, and other topics in the future.

We’re keeping the class size small to ensure the instructor can give participants individual attention when needed. As space is very limited and much interest has already been expressed, the March 27th course will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. Please email Kim Galloway, AMBC Director of Operations, at hello@ambc4me.org to register as soon as you can. We anticipate a waiting list.

With care,
The AMBC Team
